Client Overview
CloudLedger is a cloud-based accounting and invoicing platform headquartered in London, serving SMEs across Europe. With MENA representing their fastest inbound interest region — driven by Egypt’s entrepreneurial boom and Saudi Vision 2030 small-business incentives — the leadership team committed to a proper Arabic market entry rather than bolting on Google Translate.
At engagement start, CloudLedger had zero Arabic-indexed pages, no RTL product interface, and no understanding of how Arab business owners search for software solutions. Their competitors included both international players with weak Arabic support and local Arabic-first tools with strong regional SEO but inferior product features.
The Challenge
SaaS SEO in Arabic presents unique hurdles. Business software queries span Modern Standard Arabic (برنامج محاسبة), Egyptian colloquial (برنامج فواتير), and Gulf terminology (نظام سندات), often within the same market segment. CloudLedger’s English-only knowledge base meant they were invisible for every Arabic commercial query in their category.
RTL adaptation extended beyond marketing pages into the product itself. Search engines evaluate user experience signals — if Arabic-speaking users bounced because the dashboard remained LTR, rankings suffered regardless of content quality. The engineering team needed SEO guidance integrated with product localisation, not siloed in a marketing brief.
Culturally, trust signals differ in MENA B2B. Arabic case studies, testimonials from recognisable regional businesses, and compliance references (ZATCA e-invoicing in Saudi Arabia, UAE VAT regulations) were essential for both conversion and E-E-A-T. CloudLedger had none of these.
Link building in the Arabic tech ecosystem required relationships with regional startup publications, fintech blogs, and business forums — a completely different domain graph from the DA-70 English SaaS review sites their US team was familiar with.
Strategy
We designed a localization-first SEO programme that treated Arabic not as a translation project but as a primary growth channel.
Technical architecture. Implemented /ar/ subdirectories with full hreflang linking to English equivalents. Deployed Arabic XML sitemaps, robots.txt directives prioritising Arabic crawl budget, and structured data for SoftwareApplication schema in Arabic. Page speed optimisation targeted Egypt’s mobile-dominant user base — compressing assets to perform on 3G connections common outside Cairo and Dubai metro areas.
Keyword research across dialects. Mapped 1,800+ terms across accounting, invoicing, expense tracking, and tax compliance categories. Egyptian Arabic variants (فاتورة إلكترونية, ضريبة القيمة المضافة) received dedicated landing pages separate from Gulf-focused ZATCA and VAT content. This dialect segmentation was the single highest-impact decision — within 90 days, CloudLedger ranked page one for 23 Egyptian commercial terms with near-zero competition.
Arabic knowledge base. Produced 120 help articles and 24 pillar pages covering everything from “how to create an invoice in Arabic” to “Saudi e-invoicing compliance guide.” Each article targeted long-tail informational queries that fed commercial pages through strategic internal linking. The knowledge base became a backlink magnet — Egyptian business blogs referenced CloudLedger’s Arabic VAT guides organically.
Product localisation SEO. Collaborated with engineering to ensure Arabic UI strings were indexable where appropriate (public template galleries, shared report previews), implemented Arabic URL slugs for feature pages, and created comparison pages targeting queries like أفضل برنامج محاسبة للشركات الصغيرة.
Arabic backlink programme. Earned editorial links from Wamda, Magnitt, Egyptian Streets business section, and Saudi tech Twitter-adjacent blogs. Contributed Arabic guest articles on fintech trends to regional publications. Participated in Gulf startup ecosystem directories and Egyptian SME resource portals.
Conversion optimisation. Arabic landing pages featured testimonials from named businesses in Cairo, Riyadh, and Dubai. Added trust badges for regional compliance standards. A/B tested CTA copy — discovering that Egyptian users responded better to colloquial “ابدأ مجاناً” while Gulf users preferred formal “سجّل الآن”.
The programme ran over ten months with quarterly milestone reviews. Month three delivered first page-one rankings in Egypt. Month six brought Saudi commercial term visibility. By month eight, CloudLedger held the #1 position for their primary Arabic product keyword cluster across all three target markets.
